About
IKEA is a global home furnishing retailer expanding its presence around Australia. As part of their expansion team, I travelled to the new construction locations to support the large and international team with design guidelines and their implementation. We entered the buildings as concrete shells and helped transform them to fully fitted-out IKEA retail stores.
The Challenge
To develop implementation guidelines for all communication within IKEA stores, including car park signage, customer guidance and in-store signage to navigate people strategically through the store, safety manuals, food handling guidelines and all internal communication.
The Process
Understanding store layouts and international implementation guidelines
Adapting the design elements to the individual stores
Specifying, documenting and ordering materials such as boards, decals and fixtures
The Outcome
Detailed installation manuals for each retail area, guiding the implementation team on signage, wall graphics, instructions, information, posters, and fixtures ensuring consistent and accurate placement.
